I started at fifteen, working summers all the way through college in our father's painting and construction company. Painting taught me three things: how much I hate painting, how a house gets finished, and how much bad work a coat of paint can hide. I never got over the third one.
My brother Paul and I built Alexandra Fine Homes from scratch — no clients, no playbook, just hard work and good taste. Three-plus decades and more than two hundred homes later, we had won Custom Home of the Year thirteen times, stopped counting the Best-of awards somewhere past fifty, and earned a reputation we never had to advertise.
A few years ago, Paul and I decided that chapter was complete. We wound it down the way we ran it — together, on our own terms, proud of all of it. The next chapters were ours to write separately.
We build a small number of homes each year — because we no longer have to say yes to everything.
We build a small number of homes each year — because we no longer have to say yes to everything.
ArtHAUS is the deliberate chapter. Fewer homes, closer attention, every conversation still running through me. If we're building your home, you have my cell — the same number I've had since phones were wired into cars. It still works.
The next chapter is already on site. My daughter Sophie joined the company this year as project manager — the kid in this photo, twenty years on, back inside the framing. She grew up around job sites and knows all my stories, so she can finish them. Now it's hers too.

The long version is thirty years. This is the short one.
I started at fifteen, working summers in our father's painting company. Painting taught me three things: how much I hate painting, how a house gets finished, and how much bad work a coat of paint can hide. I never got over the third one.

The deliberate chapter. Fewer homes, built closer — every decision runs through me, and if we're building your home, you have my cell. Same number since it came wired into a car.
We build a small number of homes each year — because we no longer have to say yes to everything.
My daughter Sophie joined the company this fall as project manager. This photo is twenty years old — a house we had just framed, and her first job site. She grew up around the work. Now it's hers too, and the next chapter is already underway.
NOTE — Re-set as one reading column with run-in chapter numbers; the ledger layout (label rail + text islands) is gone. Chapter 04 is now a photo-and-text spread, quote band stays full-width. If this version wins, it replaces the About page in the main file.

I've spent my life on job sites — first holding a paintbrush, then running two hundred builds with my brother, now choosing a handful a year. Hire us and you get me: on your site, in your corner, answering my own phone. That's the whole org chart.
The rest is in the photographs.
The record starts in our father's painting company, where Paul and I both learned the trade the hard way. It runs through Alexandra Fine Homes — the company we built from nothing and ran together for two decades, the name on most of the hardware.
We closed that chapter the way we ran it: as brothers, on our own terms, proud of all of it. ArtHAUS is the chapter I'm writing alone — smaller by design, with my daughter Sophie now running the projects. Same hands. New name on the truck.
